Visiting Hours and Guidelines

Patients have a right to visitors.  Patients have the right to choose who may visit them during their hospital stay or to have a support person present during their outpatient visit.  The patient also has the right to withdraw such consent to visitation at any time.

Gulf Coast Medical Center does not deny visitation privileges on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability of the patient, patient’s support person or representative or the patient’s visitors.  The hospital reserves the right to waive this policy and/or to make adjustments to meet the special needs of the patient and/or family.  The hospital must consider optimal patient care, infection control, confidentiality and privacy, as well as security.

Visitors are restricted to the lobby area, waiting rooms, cafeteria, patient room and exam rooms.  Signage is in place to assist visitors in locating patients.

The patient, family, support person, or his/her legal representative may determine specific visiting restrictions, which shall be honored whenever not in conflict with the visitation policy.

Medical and nursing personnel may waive the visiting hours policy when there is a change in the condition of the patient, or if required to appropriately care for the patient.

Visitors will be expected to follow all isolation precaution procedures as posted on the patient’s door or as communicated by the patient’s nurse.  When hospital personnel detect an obvious sign of infection in a visitor, the patient’s nurse, Nurse Manager or designee will take appropriate protective measures.
